FAQ’s and Shipping:
Where are you based?
We’re based in Durbanville in Cape Town, South Africa.
We roast and pack all our coffee at our roastery and cafe at Spiro’s Corner.
If you’re in the area, please do come visit us and enjoy a coffee and a snack, we also roast on Tuesdays and Thursdays if you’re interested to see the roasting process, or just have a chat over a great cup of coffee!
What beans do you roast?
We only roast 100% Arabica specialty grade (80+ SCA Points) ethically and consciously sourced green beans from the best coffee growing regions of the world.
We roast the components of our Original Flagship Cafe Blend individually before blending them together. We also roast selected single origins seasonally.
We only roast medium to attain the sweet spot of roasted coffee without loosing the flavours of their origins.
Do you roast any Decaf?
Yes we do! We roast Decaffeinated beans from Colombia or Brazil. They were decaffeinated using the Swiss water process to remove the caffeine in the best possible way.
Do you offer capsules/pods or instant coffee?
No, we do not. We only roast the highest quality coffee, and we believe that it should be consumed as fresh as possible through specific brewing techniques like espresso, pour over, or stove top. We don’t believe you can attain the same quality and experience using a capsule or pod machine, and instant coffee, well, it’s not really coffee is it? So we have decided to exclude it from our offering.
What is the shelf life of your coffee?
We believe that once coffee is roasted, it should be consumed as soon as possible, but recommend a time frame of 3-7 days for the golden window, and for optimal freshness not longer than 30 days.
Once the beans have been ground, we recommend brewing them as soon as possible, as in seconds, not days!
What brewing methods do you recommend?
We recommend equipment and methods that have been tried and tested, for example an espresso machine, pour over, aero press, or stove top (Moka pot).
If you have any questions regarding the brewing of our coffee, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Why has coffee become so expensive?
There are many reasons, but some of the main factors influencing the global inflation of coffee have been the harsh winters in the growing regions of South and Central America influencing the crop size, the vulnerable R/$ exchange, and the cost of freight post the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s also got to do with supply and demand, more people are drinking better coffee, which means higher prices.
If you aren’t paying more for your coffee, you have to ask if you’re getting the same quality as before. If it’s too cheap, it’s probably not very good…
Do you have a wholesale programme?
Yes we do, a core part of our business is our wholesale programme. We supply freshly roasted coffee beans to cafe’s, restaurants, and offices in Cape Town and surrounds looking for a premium coffee experience.
We focus on the highest quality coffee and service, and believe we are very competitively priced. We’re small enough to do batch by batch quality control, and small enough to care.
If you feel like we could be your partner in coffee, please do contact us for our wholesale proposal, pricing, offering, and any further information you might require.
We are very proud of our clients, and would encourage you to visit them! They are listed on our home page.
